Matthew Dixon and Brent Adamson are managing directors with CEB's Sales Executive Council in Washington, D.C. Any sales rep, once equipped with the right tools, can drive higher levels of customer loyalty and, ultimately, greater growth. They are assertive, pushing back when necessary and taking control of the sale. They tailor their message to the customer's specific needs. Instead of bludgeoning customers with facts and features, Challengers approach customers with insights about how they can save or make money. Every sales rep in the world falls into one of five distinct profiles, and while all of these types of reps can deliver average performance, only one - the Challenger - delivers consistently high performance. This is the first of two posts on the book The Challenger Sale written by Matthew Dixon and Brent Adamson. The Challenger Sale argues that classic relationship-building is the wrong approach. The Challenger Sale book is a modern classic and so needs to be taken seriously. And what they discovered may be the biggest shock to conventional sales wisdom in decades. Matthew Dixon, Brent Adamson, and their colleagues at CEB have studied the performance of thousands of sales reps worldwide. The best salespeople don't just build relationships with customers. Challenge themWhat's the secret to sales success? If you're like most business leaders, you'd say it's fundamentally about relationships - and you'd be wrong. In The Challenger Sale, Matthew Dixon and Brent Adamson share the secret to sales success: don't just build relationships with customers.
This might be OK if you have a single web app, and it’s deployed at the same time as your backend, but definitely unacceptable if you’re using this API from a native app that the user has to update manually, or if it’s a public API. One day, a Sikh classmate named Roops ( Aaron Phagura) hands Javed a couple of Springsteen cassettes, sensing the troubled Javed may need it. (The xenophobes who consider "Born in the U.S.A." their anthem clearly haven't listened to the actual lyrics of the song). The album is a real rager, verbalizing the loss, hardship, and poverty of the American working-class as Springsteen saw it all around him. That is, until the 1984 juggernaut of Born in the U.S.A., filled with catchy tunes, but seething with political and social anger. But Springsteen was from the past, he had nothing to do with "now." "Now" was Madonna and Prince and Pet Shop Boys and Tiffany and Michael Jackson. Maybe your dad had Born to Run, or Nebraska in his collection. (Javed's father says to him at one point, "Pakistanis do not go to parties." Javed replies, "I thought I was British.") His best friend Matt ( Dean-Charles Chapman) is swept up in the New Wave scene, and Javed writes lyrics for Matt's songs, feeling frustrated and trapped.īruce Springsteen isn't a presence at all in these early sequences, an accurate representation of what it was like in the early 1980s teenage music scene. He's not allowed to have a social life, a girlfriend, independence. Parental expectation weighs heavily on Javed, who hides not just his dream of being a writer from his parents, but almost every other aspect of his personality. Javed's mother ( Meera Ganatra) works out of their home as a seamstress, and his father ( Kulvinder Ghir) works at a nearby factory. Set in the 1980s in the small town of Luton, Javed's family struggles to make ends meet in the crushing recession of the late Thatcher era, battling economic strife, rising nationalism, and racist attacks. "Blinded by the Light," at its very best, captures the experience of being a fan, the pure exhilaration of it, and the sense of your vision opening out to vistas beyond your horizon. Rock'n'Roll is the basis for "Blinded by the Light" (Manzoor co-wrote the script). That's what Bruce Springsteen did for journalist Sarfraz Manzoor, whose memoir Greetings From Bury Park: Race. You never see the world in quite the same way again. It's like having a house fall on top of you. There's a surfeit of feeling on Javed's face, so perfectly evocative of what it feels like - particularly as a teenager - to suddenly get really into something - music, a movie, a celebrity - and that something hits you in just exactly the right way at exactly the right time. It's more than excitement what Javed feels hits at a deeper level. Javed is obsessed with Springsteen's music, but the look on his face as he drinks in Springsteen's powerful meat-and-potatoes stage presence is a visual echo of the awestruck look on Courtney Cox's face as Springsteen pulls her out of the audience in the same video (which was directed by Brian de Palma). There's a moment in "Blinded by the Light," a new film from writer/director Gurinder Chadha (" Bend It Like Beckham," "Bride & Prejudice"), when the young protagonist, a kid named Javed ( Viveik Kalra), watches the video for Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" for the first time. This is the things which shows in the log(it doesn’t have a crash report) I can’t use it to start Minecraft Version 1.8.9. Extract that folder and put it in your Documents. Go ahead and download the M1 MultiMC Hack from GitHub. However, do not fret, because there is a simple patch that you can apply as a launchwrapper, which will enable this to run more smoothly. There’s a library called LWJGL that Minecraft uses, which is not entirely M1-ready yet. This is probably the most complex step, but it’s still not really that difficult. MultiMC is Open-Source so it can be trusted more than other third-party launchers. Click Add and enter in your Minecraft account credentials. The next thing you will want to do is go up to Profiles at the top and select “Manage Accounts” in the dropdown. If you don’t already see the Zulu OpenJDK in there, you should be able to find it with Browse, as it would look something like this: /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/zulu-11.jdk/Contents/Home/bin/java This is what the Java selection page should look like.Ĭlick next, and then select whether you care about Analytics being stored or not. Please select your language, then it will ask you for your Java version. So now you’re going to want to open up MultiMC. Step 3: Configuring MultiMC to Optimize Minecraft for M1 Go through all the defaults in the wizard, and then click install, and it’ll do its thing, and now you have M1-optimized Java. You may have to allow it to open in your System Preferences again. Then, click on the “Double Click to Install Zulu 11.pkg” file that looks like a box. This may require you to go to your Security & Privacy preferences and allowing the dmg to be opened. Now that you have the dmg downloaded open it up. Select your filters like so, and then click on the. It looks like this at the time of writing. Go down to “Download Builds of OpenJDK,” and then select Java 11 as your Java version, macOS as your Operating System, and ARM (64-bit) as your architecture. See also How to Install Linux on a Chromebook The Webpage of Zulu OpenJDK There is no official Oracle JDK optimized for Apple Silicon (at the time of writing), but there is a community-driven M1-optimized JDK from Microsoft Azul. Search “Terminal” in Spotlight, and run the following command to install: xcode-select -install Step 2: Getting an M1-Optimized Java Installation NOTE FROM LATER: We forgot to add this to the tutorial at first, but you will need to install the XCode command line developer tools. Don’t start it yet because we still need to install an M1-optimized JDK. Go ahead and install MultiMC by extracting the tar.gz and then placing it into the Applications folder in the Finder. However, it is still able to launch the actual Minecraft game to be M1-optimized. I chose this launcher in particular because you will have to enter your Mojang account credentials into it, and Open-Source software is less likely to be hot-seated.įirst of all, download MultiMC from the website. MultiMC is an Open-Source customizable Minecraft launcher. Step 1: Installing MultiMC to Optimize Minecraft for M1īecause the normal Minecraft launcher does not make it possible to optimize Minecraft for M1, you must first install MultiMC. For 1.17 and above, please read this tutorial: How To Optimize Minecraft 1.17 for M1. IMPORTANT NOTE: This tutorial is for 1.16.5 and below. However, I have finally figured how to optimize Minecraft for M1 with the MultiMC launcher’s help. One of the main apps I care about performing well is Minecraft. However, most apps still are not yet optimized. I recently purchased the MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon. In one particular level, you’ll even duck into a closet to switch between Parker and Spider-Man. Several times throughout the story, players will have to talk to other characters as Peter to gather information. It’s one of the newer elements that Beenox and Activision have added to the title, and it works well as a change of pace. The death of Uncle Ben is just the first sequence in which the player controls Peter Parker, rather than Spider-Man. Given that reviews for the film were mixed, some fans might not mind this fact, but it’s jarring to say the least. And the Rhino, who actually appeared in the previous game, is completely absent. The film’s villains, Electro and the Green Goblin, appear less than Kraven or the Kingpin. Gwen Stacy, who played an integral role in the previous game and film, doesn’t appear once. It also shows very early on that this is going to be quite different from the film it’s based upon. While many fans complained that the most recent film ignored this part of Spider-Man’s story, it’s an interesting mission statement to have his death placed so prominently at the start of the game. It’s a jarring and effective way to start the game. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starts off by recreating the death of Uncle Ben from the previous film. There was a lot that I enjoyed during my time with the title, but calling it a movie tie-in seems like a bit of a stretch. While I was playing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for this review, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu. Sure, Ivan Ooze showed up for the final battle, and Ninja Megazord made a cameo, but the majority of the title featured enemies from the television show. It occurred to me that it didn’t seem to have much at all to do with the movie it was supposed to be based on. While I liked the game, there was something odd about it. For my tenth birthday, I received Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie for Super Nintendo. |
